One of Scotland’s newest towns, Countesswells, is to be the first in Scotland to access the UK’s fastest and most advanced fibre broadband, it was announced today.
Grain hyperfast broadband is set to offer the Aberdeen town broadband speeds of well over 1,000 megabits per second (Mb) – 35 times faster than the UK average.
Grain was appointed by Countesswells Development Limited (CDL) – the company behind the new £800million community at Countesswells – to provide each of the 3,000 new homes with the latest in new build fibre broadband technology.
Grain Managing Director Rich Robinson said Grain hyperfast broadband was one of the few UK networks to deliver a ‘true fibre’ connection today.
“We design, build, install, operate and maintain a brand new – true fibre – community network in every development we work in,” he said.
“A ‘true’ fibre network installs a direct path from the internet to the router in each living room – in other words, the connection is yours and yours only, with absolutely no congestion at peak times.”
“We are thrilled to be able to offer new Countesswell’s residents access to the country’s latest and most advanced broadband technology, and hope to offer a solution for residents at Kingswells and other surrounding areas down the track,” he said.
“Ultimately, Grain hyperfast broadband could be accessible right across Aberdeen – making it the country’s best connected city.”
Opportunity North East Chief Executive Jennifer Craw welcomed the news, saying:
“Improving digital infrastructure is key to the future success of our region’s economy…. Ultrafast connectivity can be harnessed to grow existing businesses; attract further investment; create new businesses; and enhance the area’s attractiveness as a place to live and work,” she said.
Grain’s fibre installation has begun across the development so Countesswells residents can look forward to having hyperfast broadband connected, ready and waiting the day they move in.
