This Women in Engineering Day we’re introducing Lori, our Senior Project Manager in Cumbria!
Lori joined us in 2017, while studying Project Management part time at the University of Cumbria. She was then promoted to Senior PM in 2020, in recognition of her performance. As part of this promotion, Lori became responsible for fibre installations to existing properties across Cumbria.
As a Senior PM, Lori’s responsibilities include planning and defining project scope, monitoring & reporting on KPI’s, and ensuring the successful completion of projects within the constraints of time, cost, and quality. The people management element of the job involves motivating and managing the team, and ensuring Health & Safety is properly adhered to.
“I’m very grateful to Grain for supporting and mentoring me through my degree, and for the opportunity to expand my knowledge of Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), construction and engineering. Although a relatively young company, they have big aspirations and offer plenty in terms of improvement and learning. Since my degree, I’ve also gained job specific qualifications including my CSCS card and NRSWA training.
With a passion for the industry, I’ve enjoyed the variety and challenge of the job since I started, as no two days are the same. Trust is a big factor in delivering projects and I’ve always found the management team culture to be open and susceptible to new ideas, which is something I find really important.
I would encourage those thinking of joining Grain to do so – particularly women. We have historically been underrepresented in the utilities sector but have so much to offer!”
