Broadband prices going up again?

If you're with BT, EE or Plusnet, keep reading to find out how you might be impacted.

1st August 2025

If you’re with BT, EE or Plusnet, you may have noticed your bill creeping up – or about to. Let’s break down what’s happening, why prices are rising again, and what your options are.

How price rises used to work: Inflation-based increases

For years, BT, EE and Plusnet (all part of the BT Group) used a common method to raise prices – linking them to inflation. Each year, your monthly bill would go up based on the official inflation rate, plus a bit extra.

The trouble? These increases weren’t transparent, and most customers had no idea how much their bills would rise until just before happened.

Then came the flat rate increase: A “simpler” price rise

After Ofcom stepped in and banned inflation-linked price rises, BT Group switched to a flat rate model: a clear £3 per month increase, built into the contract. Easier to understand, but still – your bill would go up during the contract term.

What’s changing now: Price hikes are going up again

From 31 July 2025 (5 August for Plusnet), that flat rate price rise is increasing. New customers joining BT, EE or Plusnet will now face £4 per month increases, each March, during their contract. That’s £48 extra per year – regardless of whether your service has changed.

Even though Ofcom has banned inflation-linked hikes on new contracts, this type of fixed increase is still allowed – as long as it’s stated upfront. And it is. In the fine print.

Our promise? No in-contract price rises, ever

At Grain, we don’t believe in moving the goalposts after you’ve signed. That’s why all our broadband packages come with no in-contract price rises. The price you see is the price you pay – for the full length of your contract.

No sneaky increases. No March surprises. Just fast, Full Fibre broadband at a fair and fixed monthly rate.
