It was our birthday last week. We turned nine!

The journey since 2017 has been a bit of a ride. One that’s just picked up a cool £225 million in new funding.

From Carlisle to homes across the UK: The Grain broadband journey

Grain started in Carlisle back in 2017 – before “Full Fibre” was a household phrase. We were a broadband start up with a handful of employees and the slightly audacious idea that we could build something better than the status quo. 

And not just a bit better. Faster, more reliable, more affordable – and fully independent. 

That meant building our own alternative network infrastructure (yep, we’re an altnet) and rolling out dedicated fibre straight into UK homes. No copper. No sharing speeds. No traffic jams at peak times. 

Fast forward to today and we’ve built our Full Fibre broadband network to cover over 270,000 properties across the country – from Aberdeen to Brighton, Carlisle to Cornwall, Leicester to Liverpool and Newcastle to Newport.

 £225 million in new broadband investment? That’ll do nicely

You might’ve seen the news: we’ve secured £225 million in new funding to supercharge our rollout. It’s a big deal – for us, and for the thousands of people waiting for a better broadband option.

This broadband investment means expanding our gigabit-capable Full Fibre network even further and keeping our affordable broadband packages genuinely affordable for our customers.

In short, we’re doubling down on what we do best – building fast, reliable, Full Fibre broadband for homes across the country.

What’s next for Grain?

We’ve come a long way in nine years. But, we’re just getting started. 

With this latest funding round, we’re reaching more homes in UK towns and cities, and offering even more people the chance to switch to a better broadband provider. 

We’ll keep doing things our way – no telegraph poles, no copper, no gimmicks, no in-contract price hikes. Just fair, fixed-price broadband that does what it says on the tin.
