Are your broadband prices going up every year while service stays exactly the same?
One minute you’re signing up for a “great deal”. The next, your monthly bill jumps up by up to £4 per month because of “inflation”, “market conditions” or whatever phrase providers are using this week.
Meanwhile, your Wi-Fi still gives up every evening.
Why are broadband prices going up every year?
Most major providers do annual in-contract price rises. Usually, this means your bill goes up every spring – even if you’re in the middle of your contract.
Usually, the increase is linked to inflation. Then there’s often a little extra added on top for good measure.
So, while your broadband package stays exactly the same:
- Your monthly bill goes up
- Your contract doesn’t restart
- And you don’t really get a say in it
What are in-contract price rises?
An in-contract price rise is exactly what it sounds like: your provider increases your monthly bill while you’re still under contract.
Here’s what some providers are adding to your bill each month in 2026
+£4.00pm
+£4.00pm
+£3.50pm
+4.00pm
+£4.00pm
+£3.00pm
+£3.00pm
+£3.00pm
So, if you signed up for £28 a month on a 24-month contract, you could see your contract going up by £4 per month (sometimes twice) during your contract term. That’s a potential £36 a month for your bill by the time your contract ends.
Bit daft if you ask us.
Do all broadband providers increase prices during a contract?
Nope. Broadband providers choose their own pricing policies, and not all providers apply annual in-contract price rises.
We prefer to keep things simple.
The deal you sign up for is the deal you stay on for the length of your contract.
No annual in-contract price rises. No unexpected changes. Just fixed-price Full Fibre broadband with a clear deal.
Frequently asked questions
-
What are the price rises based on?
In 2024, many UK broadband providers (not us!) announced their price rise rates in January-February. These were based on the inflation rates announced at the beginning of each year (CPI or RPI), plus any additional price rises already written into the individual company terms and conditions. In 2024, some customers saw price rises up to 8.8%!
Thanks to a ruling from Ofcom, in 2025 and beyond, providers will have to be much more transparent about price rises, and many have opted for a flat increase up to £4/pm each March or April. In some cases, that increase up to £4/pm actually works out even more expensive than the previous inflation linked price rises – especially as inflation has fallen in late 2024.
Either way, we disagree with imposing these rises and we promise not to do it during a fixed-term Grain contract!

How do I find out if my broadband bill is rising?
If you’re a Grain customer, you’re safe – we never increase our prices during your contract term.
If you’re stuck in a contract with another provider, we recommend getting in touch with them directly to find out and avoid a nasty surprise on your monthly bill!
-
Can I escape the price rise from my provider?
If the possibility of a price rise is written into your contract, then unfortunately it’s unlikely you’ve been able to escape them this time round. BUT, when you come to the end of your contract, you can escape future price rises by ditching your current provider and joining Grain! Even if they offer you a deal which looks better, just consider the impact of those future rises on your future bills.
We promise never to increase your price in-contract… EVER! Meaning you can enjoy the same amazing offer for the duration of your contract. Done deal.
-
Why has my broadband bill gone up?
Many broadband providers now apply annual in-contract price rises. This means your monthly bill can increase even if you’re still within your minimum contract term and your package hasn’t changed.
-
What are in-contract price rises?
An in-contract price rise is when a broadband provider increases the monthly price of your package while you’re still under contract.
Many providers include these increases in their terms and conditions, meaning your bill can go up before your contract ends.
-
When do broadband price rises happen?
Many broadband providers apply annual price rises, often in spring. The timing and amount will depend on your provider and the terms of your contract.
-
Do all broadband providers increase prices every year?
Not all of them — but most major providers now include yearly price rises as standard.
Usually, these increases add around £3–£4 to your monthly bill.
Which doesn’t sound too bad… until it keeps happening every year.
-
How do I find out if my broadband bill is rising?
If you’re a Grain customer, you’re safe – we never increase our prices during your contract term.
If you’re stuck in a contract with another provider, we recommend:
- Checking your contract terms
- Keeping an eye out for annual price rise notifications or emails
- Getting in touch with your provider directly to find out
A lot of providers now include yearly increases as standard.
The frustrating part is most people only realise after the bill changes.
-
Is fixed-price broadband better?
If you prefer knowing exactly what your monthly bill will be, fixed-price broadband can offer greater certainty.
There are no unexpected increases during your contract, making it easier to budget for your monthly broadband costs.
-
Does Grain increase prices during my contract?
No.
The price you agree to when you sign up is the price you pay for the duration of your contract.
-
What if I’m a Grain customer?
You can relax. The deal you’re currently on won’t change for the duration of your contract.
Even better, when it comes time to renew, we have a Price Match Guarantee – so you’re guaranteed the best deal at renewal time too.
