BT and EE announced this week that they will begin moving customers away from inflation-linked price rises, and onto a fixed £4 per month increase, applied annually.
BT and EE stated that this change only applies to customers who are out of their minimum-term – so if you’ve had an email notification about it, you could now be free to leave your contract.
If you signed up more recently and are still within your minimum term, its likely you’re already subject to the annually-applied, £4 a month increase – meaning you pay almost £50 more every year. And while you might know a rise is coming, it will still sting when it hits your pocket.
Who will be affected by the BT and EE price increase?
All new BT and EE customers get a £4 per month price rise, applied each year in March or April. Ouch.
In the past, price rises were linked to inflation, so if that old method was still in place, your increase could have been far lower than £4. Ouch again.
These rises tend to hit those who can least afford them hardest. Customers on lower speeds and lower pricing now face the same increase as those on higher speeds and higher pricing.
