TalkTalk received the highest number of broadband complaints in the UK during the first quarter of 2026, according to Ofcom. The communications regulator recorded 10 complaints per 100,000 customers, compared to the industry average of six.
Here’s what the latest figures show – and what they mean if you’re thinking about switching.
At a glance
- TalkTalk received the highest number of broadband complaints in Q1 2026.
- Broadband complaints across the industry fell to their lowest level on record.
- Faults, service issues and provisioning remained the biggest reason customers contacted Ofcom.
- Complaint figures are measured per 100,000 customers, allowing for fair comparisons between providers of different sizes.
What does Ofcom measure?
Every quarter, Ofcom publishes complaint data for the UK’s largest broadband providers.
They measure these complaints per 100,000 customers, rather than total customer numbers. This creates a level playing field and makes it a fairer way to compare providers of different sizes.
The report also breaks down why customers are contacting Ofcom, giving households insight into the most common broadband complaints and the main factors affecting customer satisfaction in the UK.
Which broadband provider received the most complaints?
According to Ofcom’s latest figures, TalkTalk received the highest complaints rate of any major UK broadband provider. With 10 complaints per 100,000 customers, they received the most complaints in the first quarter of 2026.
Alongside TalkTalk, Vodafone and BT also recorded above average customer complaints.
There was some good news, too. Complaints across the broadband industry fell to their lowest level on record, suggesting customer experience is improving overall.

The most common broadband complaints in the UK
Ofcom groups customer complaints into 3 main categories:
- Faults, service and provisioning
- Complaints handling
- Billing, pricing and charges
Across the industry, faults, service and provisioning accounted for 39% of complaints, making it the biggest reason customers contacted Ofcom. TalkTalk reported an even higher figure of 40% in this category.
Complaints handling accounted for 26% of industry complaints, compared with 27% for TalkTalk.
Billing, pricing and charges made up 17% of complaints across the industry, while TalkTalk again reported a higher percentage at 19%.
These figures highlight that reliability, customer service and transparent billing remain some of the biggest factors influencing customer satisfaction.

Should complaint figures affect your broadband choice?
Although complaint figures won’t tell you everything about a broadband provider, it’s a useful place to start.
Ofcom’s report gives us a pretty good idea of which broadband providers are keeping customers happy – and which ones might have some work to do. If the same provider consistently receives above-average complaints about faults, billing or customer service, it’s worth taking notice.
Reliable broadband matters just as much as speed
The best broadband experience isn’t just about fast download speeds – it’s about having a reliable connection backed by good customer support when you need it.
That’s one reason more households are choosing independent Full Fibre providers.
At Grain, we combine dedicated Full Fibre with symmetrical speeds, no in-contract price rises and UK-based customer support that’s available 7 days a week.
