Why switch from BT to Grain?
No annual in-contract price rises
Many broadband customers want certainty over what they’ll pay each month. While BT applies annual in-contract price increases on many consumer broadband packages, Grain keeps pricing simple with no annual in-contract price rises. That means the monthly price you agree to when you join is the price you’ll continue to pay throughout your minimum contract term.
A dedicated Full Fibre connection
Not all broadband networks are built in the same way. Grain operates its own independent Full Fibre network, delivering a dedicated fibre connection directly to your home. This helps provide consistently fast, reliable performance with symmetrical upload and download speeds for streaming, gaming, video calls and working from home.
Faster speeds
If your household streams, games or works from home across multiple devices, choosing the right broadband speed matters. Grain offers Full Fibre broadband with speeds of up to 2Gbps (subject to availability), giving customers plenty of capacity for busy households and connected homes.
Symmetrical upload and download speeds
Most broadband packages prioritise download speed, but upload speed is just as important for video calls, cloud backups, livestreaming and sending large files. Grain’s symmetrical Full Fibre packages deliver matching upload and download speeds, helping create a smoother online experience.
Only pay for the services you want
Not every household needs a bundled broadband, TV and phone package. If you already use streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ or NOW, paying for a TV bundle may not offer the best value. Here at Grain, we focus all our energy on Full Fibre broadband, with related optional extras like Digital Voice and static IPs, so you only pay for the services you choose.
FAQs about switching
Every property is different, so it’s natural to have questions before changing broadband provider. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from customers moving from BT to Grain.
-
How long will it take to activate my service?
Once your router is installed, the process to switch on your package happens straight away, meaning you can start enjoying your new Full Fibre broadband connection in no time! Our engineer will let you know if there’s anything you need to do.
-
Can I keep my existing phone number?
Yes, we should be able to transfer your current number to our network, however you will need an active account with your old provider and an active Grain account to do this.
All you need to do is submit your transfer request, simply get in touch with our support team. Our team will then arrange the transfer. Please note: it can take up to 22 days to receive the number from your old provider, so please contact us as soon as possible to ensure we can make the transfer.
Once we have received the number from your previous provider, only then should you cancel your account with them. This is because your old account needs to be active for us to retrieve your number.

How do I switch to Grain?
Switching to Grain is as easy as 1-2-3:
Check: Enter your postcode into our postcode checker to see our available speeds.
Choose: Select the Full Fibre plan that fits your needs and complete your checkout online. Ensure you input your existing broadband account details when prompted!
Connect: We manage the switchover from your existing provider, ensuring a smooth transition with no complicated cancellations required from your side. -
Will I lose internet while switching?
Because Grain operates its own Full Fibre network, many customers are able to keep their existing broadband connection active until their Grain installation has been completed, helping minimise disruption.
-
Can I switch from BT before my contract ends?
Yes. However, if you’re still within your minimum contract period, BT may charge an early termination fee. Check your contract before switching.
You can do this in two ways:
Either call BT on 0800 800 150 (available 08:00 – 21:00 Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 20:00 Saturday and 09:00 – 18:00 Sunday).
Or, log in to your MyBT account portal. Choose “My Orders” under the Support menu and view your current contract. -
Do I need to cancel BT myself when I switch?
Not necessarily! If your switch is completed using the One Touch Switch process, much of the switching process is handled automatically by us!
In some circumstances, you may still need to contact BT—for example if you’re cancelling additional services such as TV packages or if your switch falls outside the One Touch Switch process.
Start by checking your BT contract to know your end date and any potential cancellation fees. You can do this in two ways:
Either call BT on 0800 800 150 (available 08:00 – 21:00 Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 20:00 Saturday and 09:00 – 18:00 Sunday). Or, log in to your MyBT account portal. Choose “My Orders” under the Support menu, and view your current contract.
-
Will I have to return my BT equipment?
BT may require routers or TV equipment to be returned after your service ends. Check your account or contact BT for return instructions.
-
Is Grain available where I live?

-
Can I keep BT TV if I switch broadband?
It depends on your package and contract. Check with BT to understand how switching broadband may affect your TV service.
