BT are taking over TalkTalk, leaving customers feeling uncertain. Our broadband options mean you don’t have to go back.
If you left BT for TalkTalk, you may be wondering what the newly announced takeover means for your broadband. BT has acquired TalkTalk in a deal which will see them takeover the broadband and phone services used by millions of customers across the UK.
Your broadband should continue as normal in the short term. But for customers who left BT because they wanted something different, the news may still leave a frustrating question: What if I don’t want to go back to BT?
Why are TalkTalk customers being moved to BT?
TalkTalk has been facing significant financial difficulties, with the business eventually entering administration. BT has stepped in to acquire TalkTalk, taking over the service for around 2.5 million customers.
The acquisition is now subject to a regulatory review. In the meantime, TalkTalk and BT are expected to continue operating separately, although we don’t know how long this will last for. Ofcom has also confirmed that TalkTalk customers will become BT customers following the sale, although existing broadband, landline and pay TV services should continue during the transition.
For customers who chose TalkTalk specifically because they didn’t want to be with BT, that can understandably feel like an unwelcome change.
“I left BT for a reason”
You might have switched away from BT because you wanted:
- A different broadband provider
- A better deal
- An alternative to the UK’s biggest broadband providers
- More choice over who supplies your broadband
So being told that your TalkTalk service will ultimately become part of BT may not feel like the outcome you originally signed up for.
And that’s where the good news is: You don’t have to stay with the same provider – you can choose a different broadband provider instead.
