We’ve looked at comparative 1000Mbps broadband packages from Grain, BT, EE, KCOM, Plusnet, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Virgin – taking any offers, fees and in-contract price rises into account.
How much does 1000Mbps* cost in the UK?

We’ve calculated the expected average monthly cost across the contract period, taking relevant introductory offers, installation fees and advertised in-contract prices into account.
Which is the cheapest 1000Mbps broadband?
Based on our September 2026 comparison, Grain’s Full Fibre 1000 package has the lowest average monthly price of the providers compared, at £24.49 per month.
How we compare broadband prices
To make the comparison more useful, we look at the total expected cost over the contract period and calculate the average monthly price.
When relevant, it includes:
- Introductory discounts
- Standard monthly pricing
- Installation or set-up fees
- Advertised in-contract price rises
- Contract length
We compare the closest like-for-like package available from each of the above providers.
Remember, prices and offers can change, so this is just a snapshot of the market when we checked it.

EE’s comparable 1000Mbps package works out at £40.91 per month on average.
Grain’s equivalent package costs £24.49 per month on average.
When picking a broadband provider, make sure to consider more than just the introductory price.
Annual in-contract price rises, upload speeds and installation costs are an important consideration too.
Take EE, for example:
- They raise their customer’s prices by up to £4 each year in Spring.
- The download speed for this package is 900Mbps, but the upload speed is only 110Mbps
- At the time of our research*, EE were also charging a £30 installation charge.
So, what looks like a great deal on the surface, might not be as good once you read beyond the headline price.

BT’s comparable 1000Mbps package works out at £38.91 per month on average.
Grain’s equivalent package costs £24.49 per month on average.
But the monthly price isn’t the only thing worth comparing. In-contract price rises, upload speeds and installation costs can all affect the overall value of a broadband package.
Take BT, for example:
- Their prices can increase by up to £4 a month each year in Spring
- The download speed for this package is 900Mbps, while the upload speed is significantly lower at 110Mbps
- At the time of our research*, BT were also charging a £30 installation charge.
So while the headline price might look tempting, it’s worth looking at what you’ll actually pay over the course of the contract.

Plusnet’s comparable 1000Mbps package works out at £34.32 per month on average.

We’ve done the maths and looked beyond the headline to calculate the average monthly cost over the contract. That means factoring in applicable offers, Plusnet’s £20 installation fee* and annual in-contract price rises. Plusnet raises their customer’s prices by up to £4pm each year in Spring.

Grain vs Vodafone broadband
Vodafone’s comparable 1000Mbps package works out at £32.21 per month on average, compared with £24.49 per month for Grain.
But there’s more to a broadband deal than the introductory monthly price. Vodafone’s prices can increase by up to £3.50 a month each year in Spring, which can add to the overall cost of the package.

Sky’s comparable 1Gbps package works out at £27.75 per month on average.
Grain’s equivalent package costs £24.49 per month on average.
When comparing the two, it’s worth looking beyond the introductory price and checking what you’ll pay throughout the contract. Sky tends to raise their customer’s prices each year, and in Spring 2026 this was by £3pm – which is what we are basing our assumptions on.

What should you compare besides broadband price?
Price is important but it shouldn’t be the only thing you compare.
Download speed and upload speed
Download speed is the number most broadband adverts put front and centre. It’s useful for streaming, gaming, working and downloading large files, but it’s not the whole picture.
Upload speed is how quickly data can travel from your home to the internet. This means it’s particularly useful for things like video calls, cloud backups, sending large files and uploading content.
With Grain, our download and upload speeds are symmetrical, to help you do everything you need to do online.
Full Fibre vs partial fibre
Full Fibre, also known as Fibre-to-the-Premises or FTTP, means the fibre connection runs all the way to your property. It is the UK’s fastest and most reliable broadband technology.
It’s different from connections where fibre only runs part of the way to the home, and a copper cable completes the final stretch. And that copper section? It’s usually where slowdowns and reliability issues creep in.

Dedicated or shared fibre
Not all Full Fibre connections are built the same way.
Most providers use what’s called a Passive Optical Network (PON). This involves one fibre cable being split and shared with the neighbours. When you share a fibre cable, you also share speeds.
At Grain, we do it differently. We build Point-to-Point Full Fibre (PTP). With this kind of network, every home has their own personal fibre cable, not split or shared with the neighbours, meaning you get to enjoy faster, more reliable broadband.
In-contract price rises
A cheap introductory price is great. It’s less great if your price goes up once, or even twice, during your contract term.

Before you sign up to a new contract, check whether your provider increases prices during your contract and factor those increases into the total cost. The ‘bargain’ deal you found can quickly become a big strain on your monthly budget.

Data allowances
Most modern households use a lot of data. Streaming, gaming, video calls, smart TVs, phones, tablets and everything else connected to the Wi-Fi adds up.
Grain packages come with unlimited data, so there’s no monthly allowance to keep an eye on.

- If you’re nearing the end of your minimum fixed-term contract
- If your provider raised their prices without clear prior notice
- If your provider failed to hit promised speeds for 30 days
